There are a number of working groups involved in the [[Operations]] of the coop - check them out at that link. We intend to rotate in members regularly to prevent burnout, so please reach out to any group you are interested in participating in.

3. Where does all the money go?

Our [https://www.loomio.com/d/xqw7FtUT/toward-an-annual-budget budget] was outlined and discussed in [[Loomio]]. As of writing, less than a 1/3 of funds go to stipends for various [[Operations]] groups, a little less than that is contributed to allied cooperative and technology projects (determined by the [[Finance Working Group]] .) The rest is split between reserves and hosting the server, paying for [[Loomio]], [[Meet.coop]], and other [[Platforms]].

4. Is this instance based in the US or somewhere else?

Our [[Platforms]] page says our hosting is [[wikipedia:Hetzner|Hetzner]], which appears to be based in Germany.

5. What's the Matrix chat thing and should I be on that?

[[Matrix]] is an open chat network, where we have a few rooms that you might be interested in. The off-boarding process can be initiated in two ways.

A user can withdraw from the TWG:

# A TWG member decides they don't want access any more and lets someone from the TWG know.
# An active member of the TWG follows the off-boarding checklist.

A TWG member may notice inactive users in the pass database:

# After 6 months of inactivity an active member asks if the inactive member wants to officially withdraw.
# If they reply affirmatively or if they don't reply within 7 days, they are off-boarded.

FairCoop was an attempt to create a global financial system for cooperatives with the help of FairCoin, a Bitcoin-like cryptocurrency. FairCoop ceased to exist in 2022, and Platform6 took over as fiscal sponsor for SocialCoop. For several years SocialCoop struggled to renew the DNS registration each year since Duran was no longer active in SocialCoop.

In March 2024 after sustained effort bu multiple members of SocialCoop the registration was successfully transferred to Innovation Cooperative Limited (previously Platform6), who are the fiscal sponsors for SocialCoop.

Onboarding New Tech Working Group Team Members

There are a few places you'll need to be granted access to start your onboarding process to join the [[Tech Working Group]]. These first 3 steps require help from an existing TWG member.

Once you have those things you can continue to the next step of creating two merge requests (same idea as a "pull request" on Github):

# Add your GPG public key to the [https://git.coop/social.coop/tech/pass/-/tree/master/keys?ref_type=heads pass repo, in the keys folder]
# In the second merge request, add the email address associated with your GPG key to the <code>.gpg-id</code> file.

Next you will need an existing TWG member to post [https://www.loomio.com/d/jrbG5tue/server-access a poll to Loomio] about granting your server access.

Finally, someone with existing access will need to re-encrypt pass files with your new GPG key, granting you access to the infrastructure credentials.

You can get an overview of all the infrastructure using pass:

The membership was enabled for a one year experimental period.

Our membership is designed to support Social.coop's collective business, not individual members' needs. In addition to our collective membership, Social.coop invites its members to consider becoming individual members of May First as well.

Social.coop’s May First membership includes access to the [https://share.mayfirst.org/ May First Nextcloud] server which provides a place for members to share files, calendars and more. In November 2022 Social.coop became an organizational member of [https://mayfirst.coop May First Movement Technology] in order to take advantage of services such as shared calendars, Jitsi video, Nextcloud, and more. The membership was enabled for a one year experimental period.

Our membership is designed to support Social.coop's collective business, not individual members' needs. In addition to our collective membership, Social.coop invites its members to consider becoming individual members of May First as well.

= Guide for CWG Ops Team "On Call" =

The social.coop instance is moderated by a rotating member of the [[Community Working Group Ops Team]] "On Call" shifts run from Sunday at 12pm GMT to 11:59am GMT the following Sunday.

== Key Responsibilities ==

* Review reports made through the Mastodon platform ASAP, and decide on a course of action guided by our [[Code of conduct]], [[Federation Abuse Policy]], and [[Reporting Guide]]. Contact the person who made the report to let them know the action taken or ask follow-up questions.

* Decisions to silence or suspend instances should be posted to [[Defederation of instances]]

* If a case feels ambiguous enough that you don't feel comfortable acting alone on it, DM your fellow Ops Team members to discuss.

* Toot announcements and welcomes from the official account, and respond to inquiries. The account should be checked for messages, and at least one announcement/post should be made from it, at least once per week.

* Check for new applications and on-board new members regularly to both the Mastodon instance and Loomio.

* At the end of your week, if there are any outstanding issues, message the next on-call person to provide context.

== Compensation ==

Compensation is currently set at $30 per shift covered. Submit your shift info to the spreadsheet linked in the CWG Ops Team Loomio group's description prior to the monthly call, and compensation for the previous month will be reviewed and approved during the monthly call.
